Custom wargaming mat FAQ
Is the terrain on the mat 3D?
No. The mat is a flat printed surface. The terrain is part of the artwork, so you can set your own hills, ruins and buildings on top of it.
Which size should I get?
The 30" x 22" mat suits skirmish games and RPG encounters. The 30" x 44" covers a small to medium battlefield, and the 48" x 24" gives you a 4 ft wide table. For bigger games, order two or four mats of one size and set them side by side. See the size guide.
How do the multi-mat options work?
Each size has a quantity option. Two 30" x 22" mats make a 30" x 44" table and four make 60" x 44". Two 30" x 44" mats make 60" x 44", and two 48" x 24" mats make a 48" x 48" square. Questions about a design that spans several mats? Contact us.
What artwork should I use for a large mat?
Large mats need large files. Use art that is at least 150 DPI at full print size, with 300 DPI recommended: a 48" wide mat at 150 DPI is 7,200 pixels across. Let the art run 1/4" past the edges for bleed and keep objectives and labels 3/4" inside. Playmat Studio shows both guides.
Can I use a map or terrain image I found online?
Only if you own it or have the artist's permission to print it. Your own maps, original art and commissioned art are all welcome.
How long does shipping take?
Each wargaming mat is printed to order. We process orders in 1 to 3 business days and ship with tracking from New Jersey, USA. Shipping is free on orders of $75 or more.
Do you make mats for clubs and stores?
Yes, and there is no minimum order. Club and tournament tables qualify for volume pricing: 10% off at 5 mats, up to 40% off at 50. See volume orders for a quote.
